Collecting Absinthe Antiques III
Faked Absinthe Spoons & Brouilleurs
Faked spoons are an increasing problem for the unwary collector - a significant percentage  of
what's sold at French flea markets or on eBay is faked. Fakes may be sold and resold several times,
and so in some cases the seller will himself be unaware that what he is offering isn't genuine.

As with all fields of antiques, new collectors should exercise great caution in buying, particular if
they are offered what appears to be a "bargain". Rare absinthe spoons are traded within a fairly
small body of knowledgeable collectors and dealers, who are well aware of their value. A spoon
from an unknown source offered at well below market value may well be faked.

Below is a small selection of some of the more commonly found faked spoons and brouilleurs.
